For children beginning to read on their own, I highly recommend the graded Oxford Reading Tree stories and the Superphonics books by Ruth Miskin.
Spelling - an excellent website full of worksheets on spelling patterns - consonant blends, digraphs, prefixes, suffixes - everything from first phonic decoding skills to advanced spelling of words with Greek and Latin origins.
